The Alaska Stalker – October 15, 2022

Welcome to this edition of the Alaska Stalker, a lighthearted round up of the best and worst of Alaska’s social media landscape.

If you enjoy the Alaska Stalker, please consider supporting working moms like me by sending in hot tips, screencaps, overheards, and spotted ins. You can reach me at akstalker@alaskalandmine.com. As always, thanks for reading.

Southcentral Alaska had its first snow of the year, but that didn’t stop many candidates from braving the weather for lit drops and door knocks.

***
It’s been four days and I still have snow in my yard. Ivy’s just another one of those lying politicians. 🙃

***
This is my favorite thing Forrest Dunbar has ever done.

***

Imagine having Facebook in high school! Kids these days. Back in my day you had to tune into the New KFAT 92.9 to find out if it was a snow day, then immediately change your MSN messenger screen name to ***~***SnOw DaY!!!***~***

***
Friendly reminder to all door knockers: the bears are still out! 😬🐻🐻🐻

***
Of course, as Hilary Swank learned on the last episode of Alaska Daily, it’s the moose you really got to watch out for.

***
It’s clear Kelly has the moosementum going into November with her four moose to Lisa’s one measly moose.

***
Not every day you capture a shot like this. We sure do live in an incredible place.

***
If you prefer your wildlife domestic, Rep. Kelly Merrick has you covered. Just look at those sweet puppies!

***
Wait a minute…. What district are those puppies from again? 😱 Hope you’re okay, Andrew!

***
Whatever you do, don’t forget election day is in 24 days. Or 26 days. Or last weekend. Or last week. Or maybe the weekend of June 8th, 2019? What’s a day or two when it comes to politics? ¯\_ (ツ)_/¯

***
Hey Jennie, if your Alaska residency is so ironclad, why did you do a dirty delete on your Instagram just two days ago, stealth editing the post that shares the exact date you moved to Alaska? Can anyone give me a good reason someone with nothing to hide would do this? 🧐 SUS AF.

It finally happened. Gubernatorial candidate Charlie Pierce attended a debate. To keep his online engagement up, he immediately updated his profile picture with one of him actually campaigning. Blurry, natch.

***
First, Charlie is accused of workplace harassment and now Rep. Mike Cronk is accusing him of murder? Yikes! Charlie has had a rough couple months.

***
It’s October, and that means campaign attacks are intensifying. Gov. Mike Dunleavy seems to be focusing his attention on former Gov. Bill Walker (that photo with Byron tho…)

***
Former Rep. Les Gara has a different approach when it comes to attacking his opponent: tagging the FBI on Twitter in hopes they take Big Mike down over some GCI donations. What the heck, Les!

***
Former Rep. Craig Johnson is known for his negative campaign style. He once sent a mailer to everyone in his district featuring Jeff Landfield wearing nothing but a tiny speedo and partying hard. This ad features an old video of one of his current opponents, Caroline Storm, testifying in favor of an income tax. Whoever dug that up has serious dedication.

***
October is also the time of year when candidates, fatigued and anxious, start making mistakes. The Stalker lives for October! First up we have Rep. Harriet Drummond with one of the loosest emails I have ever seen. Harriet had to resend an email with corrections to some links. In the correction email she states, “My campaign manager, who insists that she is reasonable smart and competent, sent you this email with incorrect links.” Even if Harriet’s campaign manager is Harriet herself, and it’s supposed to be a joke, it’s in such poor taste she should probably issue an apology to this non-apology.

***
Compare that to Rep. Andy Josephson, who gives a nice shout out to one of the many competent campaign workers on his team. 58 years in Alaska? Daaang. I bet no one ever challenges Andy’s residency!

***
Sen. Scott Kawasaki’s under so much stress he temporarily forgot what party he belongs to.

***
Much to my chagrin, Forrest Wolfe shut down his personal social media completely when he decided to run for office. That was a smart idea because he recently started it back up again and posted this…. Whatever this even is. I don’t follow sports. Glad you’re back, Forrest!

***
Honestly, I’ll take Forrest Wolfe’s pew pew whatever sports posts over House candidate Ashley Carrick holding and taking photos with actual human brains. 😳

***
Also in Fairbanks, Kelly Nash is making things even more weird. Pssssst, Kelly: if you keep doing stuff like this to your friends, you soon won’t have many left!

***

Have you seen Walter Featherly’s recent ad? He says quote: “taking horses into the mountains and bringing home a big moose takes knowledge, experience, and preparation.” He forgot one other thing: it takes a butt load of money. Most of the hunters I know walk or take four wheelers like peasants! How much does that saddle cost? Sheeesh.

***

Kelly Tshibaka was in her element – and in the ring – at Thursday Night at the Fights. OMG this is epic. It’s the scantily clad ladies posing for photos in the background while Kelly talks about her parents being homeless and how she attended Harvard that does it for me. 10/10 must watch!

***
It’s pretty clear Craig Johnson is not a Campbell Lake defender. Paging Frank Pugh! I found your guy.

***
Speaking of public land use issues, someone sent in an interesting Twitter thread about the Fish Creek Trail Connector. It appears totally normal everyday neighbors are against the project, as it could impact part of their backyard. You know, the part that they may not actually own. Squints. Hey! That lady looks familiar.

***
Oh. Hi Mia! 👋

***

WOW. I would have never pegged Republican House candidate Will Stapp for a Les supporter. 😉

***
Did Clif Groh just refer to the Permanent Fund as a pyramid scheme? I KNEW there was more to that Angela Rodell firing…

***
I can only hope next session when someone asks future Rep. Genevieve Mina why she voted for a bill, she’ll answer, “Mostly for the pink aesthetic.” 🎀🌸🐷💅🩰

***
Same, Dozer. SAME.

***
Pat Chesbro’s positivity knows no bounds. 16% and on her way to victory!

***
Of course, if we learned anything this year it’s that long shots can turn into sure things. I’m glad to see instead of throwing bloody hearts at our elected officials, folks are now using them to profess their love.

***
Did you see the cute note Mary “super annoying little sister” Peltola sent her big sister Anna? She must be so proud. 💙

***
Congresswoman Peltola might also want to send flowers to Sarah Palin. You know, for waiting until October to finally start mentioning “rank the red” as a winning strategy. A little late, Sarah.

***

I’ve saved the best for last. Just in time for Halloween, there’s a new thriller set in Juneau involving the murder of a young senator. I may have already purchased my copy. The author is a former staffer and word on the street is they have a lot of tea to spill. OMG. Stay tuned!

***
Sent to the Stalker: ACK!

***

Overheard in South Anchorage (as told to me by a friend):
Wife: “Honey, Cathy Giessel just came to our door and she left this!!!” (wife excitedly holds out a small post-it note)
Husband: “What’s so special about it?”

Wife: “Just look at it and see if you can figure it out. Hold it up to the light! Look at it!!!”

Husband: “….. I don’t see it. What?”

Wife: “She cut that post-it note in half by hand! She took the money donors entrusted to her care and doubled the return! It’s real-life conservatism!”
Husband: “……..”

Wow! Cathy, you have a FAN. 🤣

***

Spotted walking door to door in my in-laws’ neighborhood today: Rep. Matt Claman.

***

Spotted in Vietnam: Rep. Neal Foster!

***

The Alaska Stalker was born and raised in Alaska. She lives in South Anchorage with her husband and three kids five and under. She is not Jeff Landfield.

Tshibaka in the ring with the scantily clad ladies is . . . um . . . trying to find the right words here . . . somewhat at a loss . . . er . . . so very senatorial. Yep, if that doesn’t say “leadership,” I don’t know what woud.

Do you want a hoot, look up Sarah Palin turkey culling on Google.
It’s a family favorite.

I recently learned of Tshibaka unique insight into the bureaucracy as a waste fraud and abuse investigator. From successful prosecutions of truely guilty government workers (the ones who submitted claims of similar abuses about her). Which in the end were found to be bogus. It would be nice to have someone in the government to clean up waste fraud and politicalization of the government work force.

You might want to read that report again… they charges were found credible not bogus. Her bosses decided not to pursue and just transfer her instead because would you want your “fraud” investigator being charged with fraud?… all her investigations would have to have been redone…. so easier to move her and sweep it along…..

Oh so that’s the twist now….😂

Hey Kelly I see one moose eating, and two other moose with ruff up and even ears down on one of those two.

And her back to them.

Clearly oblivious to the danger she is in-in this moose heavy state. Such indifference to personal safety, and blatant wildlife harassment negates good judgement needed in a senator.

Thank for the sharing, Moose whisper.
