Vote Dave Bronson for mayor

Note: As part of our coverage of the 2021 Anchorage mayoral race, the Landmine invited the Dunbar, Bronson, Robbins, Evans, Martinez, and Falsey campaigns to submit one op-ed each of 700 words or less in support of their respective candidates. All submissions received are published as-is and in random order starting on March 1.

Anchorage is in desperate need of leadership.  From the rapid increase in public vagrancy, to the Assembly interjecting political interference with Anchorage Police Department policies and procedures, to completely ignoring public testimony and irresponsibly spending public funds towards misguided vagrant shelters, to draconian business shut-downs in the name of protecting the public from COVID; the Acting Mayor and Anchorage Assembly have failed to provide for a safe and prosperous community.

Dave Bronson is the only candidate for Mayor who has the skills to bring a team of business, community, and political leaders together to reverse this downward spiral.  Dave will re-open businesses; he will support law enforcement and focus on reducing crime; he will work with non-profits and faith-based organizations to develop and implement a compassionate plan to reduce homelessness by directly addressing the underlying issues of drug and alcohol abuse, mental illness, and unemployment.  He will listen to the public’s concerns to address the most serious issues facing Anchorage.

It is time to act.  Anchorage is not the far left ‘progressive’ city represented by the Acting Mayor and Assembly.  Electing Dave Bronson Mayor will restore badly needed balance.  He will bring fiscal discipline and principled leadership to City Hall.  I heartily endorse Dave Bronson to be the next Mayor of Anchorage.  Please join me in bringing strong leadership and a balanced approach to government back to Anchorage.  Vote Dave Bronson for Mayor on April 6th.

-Craig Campbell is a former member of the Anchorage Assembly, former Alaska Lieutenant Governor, former President and CEO of Alaska Aerospace, and a retired Alaska National Guard Lieutenant General

No thanks! I support draconian policies that protect us from epidemics that kill 500000 plus Americans.

Please move to California where the shutdowns and draconian policies you favor so much have worked so well.

Bronson’s plan for more affordable housing is to increase a developer’s return on investment (profit). I am waiting with bated breath on the details. Bronson’s plan for the homeless is to put them in jail, waiting on who will be his Municipal Attorney for the lawsuits and who will pay the bill to house the homeless in jails. I am not aware of Bronson ever handling a budget more complex than his family budget, or managing people. We need a Mayor, not a radical in the Hill Building

A plan to remove the homeless from the streets is a start – jail may be harsh but the rampant drug and alcohol abuse that has led to the current public crisis isn’t a housing issue as much as a misguided politically inspired and failed ideological agenda that has corrupted governments, destroyed the social faith in them and increased crime. These governments now hide behind manipulated data that suppresses police crime reporting that props up their miserably failed policies but the public isn’t stupid and can see for ourselves that open drug use, street defecation, illegal urban camping etc is… Read more »

Putting people in jail at $120/day/each is not a financially sound plan, nor is it legal.

The Muni is spending 1 million a month just on the Sullivan = $12,000,000 and yet they want to decentralize with more facilities that will take more staff. 1100 homeless x 365 x 120= $4,818,000. Which plan is not financially sound?

The writer clearly missed that 3rd grade lesson on run-on sentences.

Dave Bronson is the only candidate running that can turn this city around and back in the right direction.

The thing that struck me was that Dave Bronson did not write his own statement, but had some one else do it for him. If he has such a great plan for being Mayor of Anchorage I’d like to hear it directly from him. Or should we expect folks like Craig Campbell to be the ones actually running the city and Dave just being a puppet.
