Somebody is Polling the Governor’s Race

Yesterday I got a call from an Alaska phone number asking if I was registered to vote in Alaska and if I was interested in doing a political survey. She did not know she was talking to Jeff Landfield. The woman said she was with Alaska Research Company. I have never heard of them and found very little information about them on Google. I assume it is some kind of front group or call center who is just being paid to make the calls and ask the questions.

Here is a summary of the questions that were asked:

  1. How would you rate the following public figures? (very positive, somewhat positive, somewhat negative, very negative)
    1. Mark Begich
    2. Mike Chenault
    3. Mike Dunleavy
    4. Scott Hawkins
    5. Lisa Murkowski
    6. Dan Sullivan (senator)
    7. Donald Trump
    8. Bill Walker
    9. Don Young
  2. Will you be voting in the Republican primary this year on August 21st?
  3. Who would you vote for if the Republican primary was held today? (Dunleavy, Hawkins, Chenault)
  4. Would you be more or less likely to vote for a person if they supported a state income tax?
  5. Would you be more or less likely to vote for a person if they supported a state sales tax?
  6. Would you be more or less likely to vote for a person if they supported using a portion of the permanent fund to pay for state government?
  7. Would you be more or less likely to vote for a person if they supported cutting the state budget?
  8. Would you be more or less likely to vote for a person if they opposed all new taxes until budget cuts were made?
  9. Would you be more or less likely to vote for a person if they supported spending more money to prevent crime?
  10. Would you be more or less likely to vote for a person if they supported state funding for abortion?
  11. Would you prefer a tax or using a portion of permanent fund earnings to fund state government?

She then asked the following demographic questions:

  1. What is your voter registration?
  2. Who do you normally vote for? (Republicans, Democrats, or a combination of both)
  3. How do you describe your political views? (very conservative, somewhat conservative, somewhat liberal, very liberal)
  4. Are you or any member of your home a member of a labor union?
  5. Are you married or single?

Based on the type of questions, I assume a Republican or someone representing Republicans is doing the poll. If you are the one paying for the poll, feel free to share the results with me so I can publish them!

By the questions, sounds almost like a Dunleavy poll…
