Nick Moe fails to properly withdraw from West Anchorage House race

Last week, independent Nick Moe announced that he was withdrawing from the open West Anchorage House race. In a press release and Facebook post, Moe endorsed his opponent, Democrat Carolyn Hall

However, Moe failed to properly withdraw from the race, meaning his name will remain on the ballot for the November general election.

The deadline to withdraw from the general election was September 2 at 5 pm. Eleven candidates are listed as having withdrawn from nine races. Moe is not listed as withdrawn.

The Alaska Division of Elections told the Landmine that Moe had submitted his withdrawal form on Friday, August 30, but had failed to sign in. When he resubmitted the signed form on September 2, he failed to meet the 5 pm deadline. Therefore his name will remain on the November general election ballot.

When asked for comment about his failure to withdraw, Moe told the Landmine via text message, “It’s disappointing. Plans haven’t changed though. I’ve stopped my campaign and am supporting Carolyn.”

When asked about Moe remaining on the ballot, Carolyn Hall told the Landmine, “I am going to keep running the same way I have been for the last eight months. I am going to keep hitting doors to make sure Democrats, independents, and progressives get out to vote in November. I am very excited to represent West Anchorage in the next legislature.”

The seat is currently held by Representative Jennie Armstrong (D – Anchorage), who is not seeking re-election.

Full disclosure: Carolyn Hall’s husband, Scott Jensen, owns 15% of the Alaska Landmine.

Meh, not really a Moe fan but get a new target. The coverage of him feels like childish bullying at this point.
