Anchorage Assembly member Jamie Allard deserves to be recalled

Reclaim Midtown (RM) and Save Anchorage (SA) are two of the most serious and consequential threats to our city. These groups, most popular on Facebook, are supported by a number of elected officials – some retired and others currently in office.

Reclaim Midtown is most well-known as the group that failed – twice – to recall Midtown Assembly members Felix Rivera and Meg Zaletel.

Through her involvement, Assembly member Jamie Allard encouraged the groups to use Signal, an app that erases messages once the receiver reads them, making public records of her conversations impossible to archive. The organizations are not Facebook groups like “moms who knit” – these groups are dangerous white supremacy safe havens to which Allard is not only sympathetic, but deeply imbedded. She uses the groups to discuss recalls of her colleagues, plan public testimony talking points for followers, and groom potential Assembly candidates for the April election.

One of the most visible examples of Allard weaponizing her Assembly seat was during public testimony for a new mask ordinance. Allard spent days riling up support for a “people’s filibuster.”

Her apathy towards citizen health and welfare resulted in multiple COVID-19 cases, and worse, the death of her own friends and acquaintances from COVID-19 exposure. She, along with the Bronson administration and  SA, coaxed children, people with autoimmune diseases, and the elderly into the Assembly chambers for evenings of dilatory testimony, even offering a pizza party and photo ops with Bronson. The actions denied mindful Anchorage residents a safe and healthy public space for testimony, creating an optic of lopsided support.

Allard deflects her responsibility for those who became ill or died due to these super spreaders by suggesting the Assembly be held liable for unspecified mask complications.

Anchorage is home to thousands of Jewish residents who live, work, worship, and play in our community. Many are second generation to survivors wartime atrocities.

These extremist hate groups helped create yellow, anti-Semitic Stars of David for members to wear during meetings, suggesting mandated mask wearing resembled the Holocaust, a time of mass genocide. Even Mayor Dave Bronson condoned and praised the wearing of the stars for their messaging during the October meeting. He walked back his statement the next day.

The SA Facebook group has been reported multiple times for hateful posts, extremist misinformation and disinformation, racist and homophobic comments, and fascist propaganda.

Not only did the groups make anti-semitic symbols, but SA member Paul Kendall took it further, yelling homophobic epithets directed at Assembly member Chris Constant that evening. Sadly, Kendall died within weeks of his testimony. The cause remains unknown but it was likely due to COVID-19.

These offensive groups stood loudly on Northern Lights Boulevard this summer with a sign reading “F*** BLM” and “F*** Antifa.” Over 60% of Anchorage School District children are black, Alaska Native, or children of color.  How many children read those signs and how many parents were tasked to explain — once again — the extremist white supremacy group’s presence in Anchorage?

These socially irresponsible groups have one elected official in common – Jamie Allard. Allard openly supports them using her MOA email and equipment to communicate about SA meetings. She used her personal (but used for Assembly business) Facebook page to promote the recalls of both Meg Zaletel and Felix Rivera.

Allard has weaponized her position as an Assembly member and is the exact reason recall language was put into our charter. The debate over whether the recall is a fundamental democratic exercise or, as in the two questionable recall efforts early this year, an opportunity for well-funded special interests to undo an election is not debatable here. Jamie Allard’s recall is different. She has neglected her district by catering to the combative ideology of SA and RM.

When contacted by constituents, Allard replies negatively when disagreeing with their viewpoint, “You Don’t Matter,” an extremely problematic phrase. Mental Health is a serious issue. Telling someone they don’t matter, especially coming from an elected official who claimed to do an abundance of research on suicides the past year, is dangerous and insensitive.

A self-proclaimed free speech champion, Allard has told callers from Chugiak/Eagle River that, “You are not my constituent, you are a voter,” and refuses to engage in discussion.

Allard went to great lengths to jeopardize a constituent’s job after he publicly disagreed with her. When another constituent called her out for illegally blocking him from her Assembly Facebook page, she deleted the page then blamed the “left” and Facebook for “canceling” her.

Jamie Allard has no business being in a position of ethical responsibility. It is clear she cannot work well with others and uses her position on the Assembly to favor her agenda, rather than working for her district. Chugiak/ Eagle River and JBER residents now have the opportunity to rid this official of her seat and replace her with a competent leader who is passionate about all of the  people and neighborhoods of District 2.

Chelsea Foster is a member of Recall Jamie Allard, a personal care assistant, and serves on multiple cannabis boards and committees. More importantly, she is a mother who spends her days homeschooling her kindergartener in Anchorage.

Spot-on. Jamie Allard is a disgrace to Eagle River. She makes snide, spiteful, stupid comments from her seat and publicly attacks constituents who disagree with her. She proudly displays her ignorance on a range of topics at every turn. She is directly responsible for the deaths of Anchorage citizens at the packed Assembly meetings, including the death of Bill Topel (RIP) from COVID-19. She has never shown any remorse for hosting events that killed people, including her “friend” Bill. Jamie: people who really care about others don’t deliberately endanger them. I think on some level even her supporters would acknowledge… Read more »

I agree. There are now three of these radical politicians in government from Eagle River. Two (Allard and Reinbold) have now proven they are especially incapable of participating in representative government because they cannot control their vitriol and are only motivated by the vendetta while the third (Kennedy) has become a dedicated sycophant of the other two.

What? Does Chelsie Foster think the entirety of Anchorage is liberal and wanting all money to go into a big government? I am not a white supremacist. I am a conservative, wanting to live my life with as little governmental interference as possible. When residents wore stars of David, they were saying that our local government was VASTLY overreaching to the degree of the Nazi regime. THEY WERE. THEY ARE. The voting rolls need to be audited. Mail-in ballots should be requested for a reason, signed for and identified through the voter registration. To say I am suspect is lying!… Read more »

Sandra,
Do you have an idea how much fear you instilled by brandishing the star of David?

Do you have any idea how diminishing history is a white supremacist agenda?

If you act like a white supremacist and think like a white supremacist……

Having to wear a mask in the grocery store, that may help prevent transmission of an illness, is comparable to being forced to wear a symbol that marked you for a likely trip to a gas chamber? You people are sick.

The recall vote will be limited to Eagle River residents,You can vote your contempt in the Allard recall election. BTW, we have a tax cap, maybe you can explain how the government got bigger?

Not a good look letting this chick write under your name, Jeff. I can’t find one thing here that’s accurate, although I admit I didn’t read all of her drivel.

If you didn’t read how the hell do you know if it is accurate or not? Or, do you just blindly believe what others tell you to believe?

Tell me, is Chelsea foster even a resident of her district? If not, is it legal for her to file a petition for recall? I’m pretty sure it’s not…

It is legal. However if you’re “pretty sure” you can just yell your opinion louder than other people and it will trump facts.

Anyone on the fence about Allard should listen to her unhinged, rage-filled tantrum when the Assembly made the emergency vote on the mask mandate. When I say tantrum, I mean TANTRUM. Total loss of self-control. Allard’s style of governance does not even belong at a preschool.

Allard is a trash person, but she won’t get recalled. Her constituents knew exactly what they were getting. It’s sad and embarrassing, but she represents the majority of her constituents’ views/temperaments. Angry white trash throwing tantrums is nothing new. Treat them like you would a toddler and don’t engage until they calm down and are ready to be logical. Also, donate and support reasonable candidates for the ANC assembly to make sure the toddlers don’t get any more power.

I disagree that District 2 voters will not vote to eject Jamie Allard. Per Ballotpedia in the 2020 election, a full 40.8% and 4,131”constituents” voted against her. This was fresh off her defeat by Kelly Merrick. In 2020, District 2 voters gave Allard a chance…an opportunity to represent their interests. She simply blew it. For the many times and ways please check out Facebook page Recall Jamie Allard. Knowing that every day with Allard in that seat is a day being focused not on their interests, but on Allard’s antics, they are not willing to wait over a year to… Read more »

Can we stop with all this recall nonsense. People serve 3 year terms on the Assembly. Vote them out when it is time if that is the desire. I am no fan of Allard and had a little fb tiff with her a year or so ago. I am equally not a fan of her lefty equivalents which include Rivera, Zalatel, Dunbar, LaFrance, and especially Constant. As for this piece, the constant left wing need to call everyone a racist over disagreements makes everything else they say questionable as a result. Make no mistake that kind of ignorant nastiness feeds… Read more »

Though I agree the recall system is normally a waste of coin and time, Allard has demonstrated, like Bronson, that she is an antisemite. And she is running for a higher office, so bringing attention to her hate serves us all well.
