Six of Anchorage’s 12 Assembly seats are up this year. Three incumbents – Assembly members Zac Johnson, Anna Brawley and George Martinez – are seeking re-election. Two Assembly members, Chris Constant and Felix Rivera, are termed out. And Assembly member Scott Myers is not seeking re-election.
Ballots for the Assembly races, two Anchorage School Board races, and bond propositions went out in the mail on March 17. They are due back by April 7.
The Landmine will be doing debates for all six Assembly races, though some candidates did not respond to our invitation. And we did not invite candidates who are not raising money and campaigning.
You can watch the debate for District 3 – Seat E – West Anchorage between Assembly member Anna Brawley and Brian Flynn below.
Thanks to Anna and Brian for participating. And a big thanks to our sponsors for making these debates possible!

Hey Dan Svatass – before you comment here saying “Brawley, Who’s next?”, can you PLEASE confirm if you are ACTUALLY an Alaskan resident and can even vote or not?
Also how’s Vegas right now? Getting ready for MLB to start soon, A’s seem to have a fiesty roster again this year.
“……….can you PLEASE confirm if you are ACTUALLY an Alaskan resident and can even vote or not?……..”
I’m sure the muni will mail him a ballot.
How is it that a sitting legislator is this bored? We understand being in the House Minority makes you an obscure loser, but jesus dude – get a life.
“……..How is it that a sitting legislator is this bored?………”
What, did you think legislation is fun? Exciting? Dealing with assholes………like you? That’s why I don’t do it. I have a life……….taking care of my own dependent “people”. I’d damned sure not do it for you. I’m sure your diaper is quite full.
We know this is Kevin McCabe! Stop with the lies. Like your PFD lies and everything else that comes from your mouth.
“……..We know this is Kevin McCabe!……..”
That’s not true. I’m Jay Hammond trying to rectify my horrible mistake.

Flynn is just repackaged Bronson failure.
Next!
“……….Flynn is just repackaged Bronson failure……….”
Was Flynn part of the Bronson administration? What are you basing that statement on?
Watch his interview, everything Flynn says is Bronson apologia. Particularly when it comes to public safety. In reality, this Administration has achieved: the first full APD Academy in five years; a fully-staffed prosecutors office (something Reggie Taylor doesn’t believe exists) since 2020; hired 19 more community service officers at APD; created a 24/7 mobile crisis team; and increased police presence in high-traffic areas such as Town Square Park. As a result, this Administration has produced: 2,610 convictions in 2025 by rebuilding the Prosecutions office; 69 arrests for homeless activities such as fires and camps near busy roads, schools, and trails;… Read more »
“………a fully-staffed prosecutors office (something Reggie Taylor doesn’t believe exists) since 2020……….” Reggie Taylor was correct: it didn’t exist, because it wasn’t staffed. Your admission that it was re-staffed is proof of that. Moreover, I admit and approve of the refocus of public safety with the current administration. They had no choice. They were on the edge of the cliff and reeling with dizziness. The pendulum had reached the far left, and it had to swing back. I approve. However, there is still a H U G E problem with a lack of prison space. The state needs to double… Read more »
As he knows, Reggie Taylor claimed here a few months back that none of Alaska’s cities had any prosecutors, that criminal prosecutions in Alaska were exclusively performed by the State Department of Law. As untrue as that was, it’s one of the least interesting lies he tells here. When Mayor Bronson was voted out in 2024, only 60% of the jobs in Anchorage’s prosecutor’s office were filled. Judges were dismissing cases by the hundreds, simply because the Muni lacked the staff to prosecute them. Mayor LaFrance quickly rebuilt the office to 100%, and convictions are way up. Reggie Taylor .… Read more »
“……..As he knows, Reggie Taylor claimed here a few months back that none of Alaska’s cities had any prosecutors, that criminal prosecutions in Alaska were exclusively performed by the State Department of Law………” It’s true that I thought that the magistrates were part of the state court system. I didn’t know that the Municipality of Anchorage conducted it’s own court prosecuting misdemeanors and traffic cases. It wasn’t a lie. It was a mistake. And it was an easy mistake to make, even though I had testified in such a case in Anchorage back in the late 90’s or early 2000’s.… Read more »
Yet another post from Reggie Taylor that has nothing to do with his lie earlier today.
His lie that “[the Anchorage Municipal Prosecutor’s Office] didn’t exist, because it wasn’t staffed.”
Magistrates? No one is talking about magistrates or their role in the state court system.
Mental health facilities?
Prison funding?
All irrelevant.
Deny, deflect, disassemble. Reggie Taylor will post ANYTHING to distract from his lies.
I do not believe that “The entire corrections system is a state function” is entirely correct. Anchorage has our own jail that we lease to the state and then pay them to operate for us. I think the terms of that arrangement are on the table at somewhat regular intervals, and if we ever decided we’d rather manage it ourselves we’d just not renew the existing agreements. (https://www.muni.org/Lists/AssemblyListDocuments/Attachments/745681/AM%201070-1998%20OCR.pdf#:~:text=1.4%20The%20Municipality%20and%20the%20State%20have,of%20or%20material%20change%20to%20the%20lease.)
Just in case the details or background matter to anyone… The broader point that our Corrections system is in practice a State function still rings true (imho).
“……..I do not believe that “The entire corrections system is a state function” is entirely correct. Anchorage has our own jail that we lease to the state and then pay them to operate for us………” Cook Inlet Pretrial might well be on muni land, and the building built and owned by the muni, but all jails and prisons in Alaska (including API, which qualifies as a criminal psych unit) are operated by the Alaska Department of Corrections. This is per the DOC website. This is a similar deal to the Brother Francis Shelter, owned by the muni but operated… Read more »

Reggie Taylor posted this lie 8 hours ago.
Even though Reggie Taylor learned here, months ago, that Anchorage has long had a municipal prosecutor’s office.
An office that, during the Bronson Administration, was drastically understaffed by 40%.
Not “non-existent”, as Reggie asserted 8 hours ago, but drastically understaffed.
Reggie Taylor, like many of his ilk, lies to avoid acknowledging objective truth.
“……..Reggie Taylor, like many of his ilk, lies to avoid acknowledging objective truth……….” I did not lie. My statement a few hours ago was OBJECTIVE TRUTH: the municipal prosecutors office didn’t exist as an effective office because it was not staffed. There are numerous articles clearly stating that, and you have posted that OBJECTIVE TRUTH as well, and of course placing blame for that on Mayor Bronson (which I couldn’t care less about………..you can blame anybody you wish, including me). The goal is to fix it, and that aspect of the overall problem appears to have been properly addressed. I… Read more »
Laughable.
Enjoy the laugh, but expect more trouble. It will likely be a rehashed “criminal justice reform” movement along the lines of SB91 of 2016. And around and around and around we go, and where we land, nobody knows…………….
Some folks never learn…………..
“……… mental health facilities, jails, and prisons, all of which are fully relevant………”
For reference, HB 307/SB 126 is being discussed. It’s inevitable. “……..Over 65% of inmates are reported as mentally ill and 80% have substance abuse issues, driving high healthcare……….” If this is not successfully addressed, failure is guaranteed.

“……..Bronson’s first municipal attorney, Patrick Bergt, left the job in June. The Anchorage Assembly in September rejected Bronson’s next pick for city attorney, Mario Bird…………”

It’s all Bronson’s fault, say’s the Vegas High Roller…………..
So dumb lol
The Municipal Attorney and the Municipal Prosecutor are different jobs.
Performed by different people.
The Municipal Attorney is Eva Gardner.
The Municipal Prosecutor is Dennis Wheeler.
See how they have different names?
THEY’RE DIFFERENT PEOPLE!
So dumb.

TSA is a mess. So is ICE, the Coast Guard, the Secret Service, and six other agencies. I’d love to see you navigate that playground personally. It’s a common left wing strategy: shut it down with political blockades. That’s why no Municipal… Read more »
What’s Flynn’s relationship to Steve Agni ? Agni is a contributor to Flynn’s campaign. Agni is also under the microscope for his handling of a contract with the Muni for managing the Ben Boeke, Dempsey Anderson and George M. Sullivan arenas. It’s been rumoured that his cookie-baking spouse may have had a hand in the issuance of the contract. It’s also been reported that former Mayor Bronson himself signed off on the contract, which if true, would be highly unusual. Jeff and Joel and Suzy-QAnon and MisleadAlaska are all curiously silent on this. And where’s our favorite content creator, Keith… Read more »
