Video: District 1 Anchorage Assembly Debate: Sydney Scout v. Justin Milette

Six of Anchorage’s 12 Assembly seats are up this year. Three incumbents – Assembly members Zac Johnson, Anna Brawley and George Martinez – are seeking re-election. Two Assembly members, Chris Constant and Felix Rivera, are termed out. And Assembly member Scott Myers is not seeking re-election.

Ballots for the Assembly races, two Anchorage School Board races, and bond propositions went out in the mail on March 17. They are due back by April 7.

The Landmine will be doing debates for all six Assembly races, though some candidates did not respond to our invitation. And we did not invite candidates who are not raising money and campaigning.

You can watch the debate for District 1 – Seat B – North Anchorage between Sydney Scout and Justin Milette below. Nick Danger and Max Powers were not invited as Nick Danger reported no campaign activity and Max Powers reported minimal campaign activity.

Thanks to Sydney and Justin for participating. And a big thanks to our sponsors for making these debates possible!

Thanks to Dave Donley for participating.

-Landfield, above, right now

Totally agree!

It’s always best when Donley participates by not participating at all, and his total absence from this video is SUBLIME!

It’s no surprise that you’d choose the community organizing youth over the front line public safety guy and business owner whose #1 platform plank is better public safety.

It’s no surprise you’re intimidated by a young, smart woman, McCabe. Remember that time in August 2022 you got thoroughly embarrassed in court after abusing your position and the court system in a malicious and dishonest attempt to bully a private citizen?

Downtown is dead. Bringing it back to life will take years not a year but years. That’s Reality. Anchorage as a whole is not yet dead like Juneau, but it’s dying and on life support. But downtown is dead.
It’ll take the voters consistently voting to smaller government, less public union control over government, decreased property taxes, decrease barriers we have put up discouraging real estate builders and business owners not investing and building on Anchorage.

LOL where as she been hiding. Mayor Lafrance and police leadership doing a fabulous job is laughable and shows she rarely leaves her home.
Anchorage is an insane-asylum where the insane are controlling the streets deciding for us where we choose to shop, walk, and live. The least likely place we don’t run into a hobo.

LOL “I love paying my fair share (in taxes)” -Sydney. All awhile we are STILL driving poorly maintained rough neighborhood roads that haven’t been maintained for twenty five years. Those taxes haven’t been being used to maintain the neighborhood roads in summer nor in winter. You all deserve better. Problem is you all have been electing leaders who reduced your standards of living you dont even realize we live like pigs!

By the way Jeff, Excellent discussion. The two were very informative where they want to see Anchorage go. One is the direction to kill the rest of Anchorage like “the black eye” district sticking her head in the sand like an ostrich, the other one is ready to be a voice of reason to Mayor Lafrance and community leaders how to turn Anchorage around and get Anchorage living again off of life support
