The first big snowfall hit Anchorage and Southcentral this week. While the snowplowing in Anchorage has been ok, there are still a lot of unplowed or under plowed side streets and sidewalks. Things ate starting to get loose between Republican gubernatorial candidates Crooked Adam Crum and Treg Taylor, both former cabinet officials in the Dunleavy administration. And the Resource Development Council and Anchorage Economic Development Corporation are looking for new leaders.
A friendly message and reminder to all our readers. The Landmine is made possible by myself and a team of awesome Alaskans. I have been covering the legislative session in Juneau for the last seven years and returned from Juneau in May. I will be heading back this January. Apologizes for the abbreviated column this Sunday. I spent the better part of the week working on this investigative story on the Anchorage Police Department (APD). It’s fairly complicated and involved a lot of leaked documents and records. It raises serious questions about how the mental health “professional” in the story was hired by APD in the first place. This is the second story I have done based on leaked APD Internal Affairs records. APD recently launched a criminal investigation into the source of the leaks. First, I will never divulge the source or sources for any story I write under and circumstances. Period. Second, I am in possession of more Internal Affairs records that cast APD leadership in a negative light. And I intend to publish them.
Week in Review
The 2026 August primary is more than nine months away, but the attacks in the crowded field for governor are already starting. It involves two of the 12 Republicans in the race, Crooked Adam Crum and Treg Taylor. Crum served as Health and Revenue commissioner in the Dunleavy administration. Taylor served as attorney general.
It started this week when Crooked Adam Crum sent out a bizarre press release “demanding” that Taylor cancel a fundraiser with Jeff Sessions and Bill Barr. This Landmine story provides more details. But the gist of it is they are both trying really hard to please Donald Trump and get his endorsement.
This may be one of the most cringe press releases ever. The people advising Crooked Adam Crum are really taking him for a ride! 🤡 #akleg pic.twitter.com/RWszifgWxW

Taylor responded by trolling Crum. Taylor was in D.C. this week. He posted a photo standing in the same place Crum was standing in front of the White House when he posted a photo a few weeks ago. When Crum was in D.C. claiming to have meetings with Trump’s people, Trump and his crew were in Asia. Taylor made sure to include his Eisenhower Executive Office Building (EEOB) badge in the photo he posted. Very loose. But what’s super loose is they are both wearing a red tie. That is just a weird level of simping for Trump.
Same pose and everything. 😂 pic.twitter.com/MqwKHZfdMw

The Resource Development Council (RDC) is looking for a new executive director. Leila Kimbrell, who had served in the role since 2022, recently resigned, effective October 30. RDC is hosting their annual conference this coming at the Dena’ina Center on November 12-13.

The Anchorage Economic Development Corporation is looking for a new president/CEO. Jenna Wright stepped down due to a health matter. I am a big fan of Jenna. I wish her all the best!

The Alaska Cabaret, Hotel, Restaurant and Retailers Association (CHARR) will soon be looking for a new president/CEO after Sarah Oates Harlow left the role last month. With Steve Wackowski recently being chosen as the new president/CEO of the Alaska Oil & Gas Association, the faces of many of the leaders of Alaska trade groups are changing.

This Week’s Loose Unit

This week’s designee is short and sweet. This week’s Loose Unit is the Anchorage Police Department command staff, namely Chief Sean Case. Rather than looking at their own leadership problems, they launch a criminal investigation into the source of the leaks instead of looking at what they can do to improve morale among the rank and file. Classic Loose Unit behavior.
If you have a nomination for this week’s Loose Unit, or if you have any political news, stories or gossip (or any old pics of politicians or public officials) please email me at jeff@alaskalandmine.com.

I write under and circumstances. Try grammarly.
It should catch many of these. Typically typos don’t matter, but some of these are dinging the communication.
“And I intent to publish them”
Apologizes
Grammarly catches all three of these.
Hmm, the greatest observer of alaska’s political currents observes that there ain’t a hill of beans shit for difference among the dozen or so maga creatures taking full advantage of the RCV method of running for office chasing the governor ship in 2026. So, (pulling ones hair out) how oh how do i make a choice, what on earth might distinguish one against the other. Well, one might turn to fantasy, ie; one of the choices is 4 foot seven in 10 inch heels. What sort of fantasy might a male maga voter entertain that distincts her from the others?
“distinguishes”
“While the snowplowing in Anchorage has been ok, there are still a lot of unplowed or under plowed side streets and sidewalks”.
Ok? Almost every major road is a washboard capable of breaking teeth. Pathetic response for just a little snow.
Great point, does the Mayor’s unofficial spokesperson for Landmine comment thread sections, Dan Svatass, have anything to say or refute this?
No, I don’t. The roads definitely are in worse condition than they were just a week ago.
Thanks for the free rent in your head.
I’m actually subsidizing my rent from one of those many low-income muni grants your Mayor continues to fund (which is but a drop in the bucket in the fight against homelessness in this town), so no thanks needed, it’s all yours and this administration that is failing our city!
“…….Thanks for the free rent in your head…….”
Do you actually enjoy being the subject of so much wonder and marvel?
We’ve all seen worse.
That’s because the people of Anchorage are government dependent they don’t want to cut muni positions, non profit, special interests out of the budget. so that money can be put to the roads and contracts for redesigning and repaving neighborhood roads and snow plowing
Anchorage has the taxpayer money for its roads, its just assemblys and mayors have been blowing it in every direction except toward the neighborhood streets
The usual fantasy from the right, untethered from reality.
What corner of Alaska ISN’T government dependent?
We Alaskans NEVER pay our way. We RECEIVE more per capita than do the residents of the other 49 states.
Last year, the residents of other states supported Alaskans to the tune of $24,796.
Tina must live in California, New Jersey, or Minnesota, which subsidize Alaska’s welfare state.
“………We RECEIVE more per capita than do the residents of the other 49 states………”
Got a homeless person in your pocket? All are subsidized, but some receive more than others. This state is still an outpost, and Washington and the environmental industry wants it to stay that way.
“………Last year, the residents of other states supported Alaskans to the tune of $24,796……….”
And, yet, Alaskans still seem to believe that it’s their “constitutional right” to get a free cash multi-$ thousand “dividend” as the Legislature struggles to balance annual budget deficits heavy with social spending.
Jeff, you don’t make to make Treg mad.
.
Remember, a word from Treg was apparently all it took to get Suzanne Downing tossed from “Must Read Alaska”.
.
Don’t want to to lose you too.

Are you? Are you a police officer or police administrator? A political appointee? Dan Sixpack?
It’s pretty obvious why a leaker of police internal affairs information would want to maintain anonymity to anybody but an idiot. Personally, I’d be surprised if the leaker doesn’t get caught, but Deep Throat lived along lifetime and died before the nation figured out who he was.
-Reggie Taylor
Nope.
Mark Felt publicly revealed that he was Deep Throat on May 31, 2005.
Felt died on December 18, 2008.
December 18, 2008 is three and a half years AFTER May 31, 2005.
Reggie Taylor never fails to not impress.
“……..Mark Felt publicly revealed that he was Deep Throat on May 31, 2005……..”
Point being that, had he not revealed his role, the identity of Deep Throat would still be a subject of debate.
Let’s see how long the APD leaker remains unknown. Do you think he’ll reveal his identity? Or might he/she be caught?

You stated earlier the ADN was never going to publish any leaks. Where did you learn that? Because I did not gather that much from the article you told me to read.
No, I never wrote that or anything like it. Show me the words where I expressed “ADN was never going to publish any leaks” or words to that effect. Of course ADN will publish leaks. Leaks certainly have a role in professional journalism. Look at Kyle Hopkins’ work. I wrote that ADN and other media organizations received these leaks and plainly found them unpublishable. Not that “ADN was never going to publish any leaks”. Why hasn’t ADN published them? I expect it’s because ADN is run by journalists. Journalists who apply responsible journalistic practices: Provide reasons for readers to believe… Read more »

“Almost every major road” is plowed by the State of Alaska.
Specifically, by the State of Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities.
Not by local governments.
Perhaps Gov. Dunleavy can salve your butthurt.
🤣🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for the snarky response (normal for Mr. know-it-all). Where did I say it was either the Muni or the State? Regardless of who plows them, a lot of roads in. ANCHORAGE are washboards. Major roads, feeder streets, you name it.
You’re welcome, Ms. Know Not Much And Hoping To Be A Victim.
You didn’t.
Here’s more detail on Rep. McCabes APOC violations. It is revealing about his true character or lack of it. The last four pages of the document are a letter from McCabe to the commission explaining why he believes he did nothing wrong. The last paragraph caught my eye because McCabe without evidence tried to paint his accuser as a liar and the complaint as meritless. He closed the letter by saying “there should be consequences for knowingly filing a false complaint.” Two years earlier McCabe’s malicious legislative ethics complaint against two fellow Republican legislators he envied for being true conservatives… Read more »
