I hope everyone had an awesome Thanksgiving. I took the week off so I could eat turkey and relax. However, I’m not leaving you all empty handed. Below is an interview I did with Governor Bill Walker this week. We discuss the transition to Governor-elect Mike Dunleavy and his term as governor. I would like to thank him for taking the time to sit down with me, and his staff for setting it up. I would also like to thank Steven Cornfield for filming the interview.
Oh, and I can’t leave out this week’s Loose Unit. I’m sure everyone has heard that the race for House District 1 between Republican Bart LeBon and Democrat Kathryn Dodge has resulted in a tie, 2661 to 2661. There will be a final hand recount of the absentee ballots this Friday, but it looks like this one could be decided by a coin toss or some other game of chance. I am personally advocating for three rounds of dice rolling. This would include play by play commentary. Anyway, this week’s Loose Unit is every voter in District 1 who did’t vote. Imagine how many people intended to vote but said to themselves, “Screw it, my vote doesn’t matter.” Very loose. What makes it even looser is the balance of power in the house hinges on this race. If Dodge wins, the current 21 member Republican majority falls to 20, which means all bets are off. The other bizarre thing about all of this is how Speaker Bryce Edgmon (D – Dillingham) fits into all of this. He was in a race in 2006 with Carl Moses that resulted in a tie. He won by a coin flip. If the District 1 race remains a tie after the final recount, his political future as Speaker could once again be decided by a coin flip. Now that is loose!
