The Alaska Stalker – December 24, 2022

Welcome to this edition of the Alaska Stalker, a lighthearted round up of the best and worst of Alaska’s social media landscape.

If you enjoy the Alaska Stalker, please consider supporting working moms like me by sending in hot tips, overheards, and spotted ins. You can reach me at akstalker@alaskalandmine.com. As always, thanks for reading.

***
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Cool dad, Rep.-elect Justin Ruffridge, has one of my favorite post-election sign usage ideas to date. How much air do you think you can you get on a 4 X 8? 🛷

***
So far, I’m rather enjoying Dunleavy 2.0

***
The DEC held a non-ranked choice voting ugly sweater contest. Commissioner Jason Brune won! What are the odds?!

***
I know who my constituency is. I won North Pole by double digits.”

***
You’re never too old for a picture with Santa. At first glance at the caption I thought this was Rep. David Eastman’s Christmas card! My goodness, Kelly. It’s 2022! Might want to rethink your wording next year.

***
Anchorage Assembly member and real estate broker Kevin Cross has a unique item on his Christmas list: a new road from Eagle River to Girdwood. I have a feeling Holtan Hills housing development might also be on Kevin’s wish list. 🏘️🏘️🏘️🤑

***
At first I took umbrage to Rep.-elect Will Stapp’s Anchorage info-graph. Beverly Hills? I only have a one car garage!

***
But then I remembered he has to deal with this on a regular basis. No thank you. 🥶

***
You think Will’s negative? It’s so cold up north Rep. Mike Cronk truck’s thermometer stopped registering! 😱

***
It was a balmy -8 in Midtown Anchorage earlier this week. Rep.-elect Alyse Galvin entertained a moose in her front yard, and almost invited her inside. Then she remembered: if you give a moose a muffin, she’ll ask for a full PFD to go with it.

***
The temperatures dropped and the snow has stopped, yet we’re all still digging out in Southcentral. Anchorage School Board member Dave Donley actively helped students get to school on time last week after he single handedly dug out a stuck school bus. Dave, why is this not a sponsored post already?!?!

***
Not to be outdone, Anchorage Assembly member Randy Sulte cleared an entire road!

***
Anchorage Assembly member Chris Constant is leading the charge for folks to dig deep – pun intended – and make sure those fire hydrants are accessible. I’ve seen him inspire a couple folks, including myself, to do the same.

***
Rep.-elect Andrew Gray started shoveling on a Monday and didn’t stop until he dug himself into the biggest hole ever last Friday night. For those who didn’t hear, poor Andrew accidently texted a secret freshman legislator organization plan to Rep. Sarah VANCE instead of Rep. Sara HANNAN. OMG. I’ve been suffering from second hand embarrassment ever since.

***

I have to give this round to Sarah Vance. 👑

***

With the cold temperatures, unplowed roads and a terrible windstorm, please remember to drive safe out there. 🙊 That Doug Massie like tho….

***
Speaking of Amy, I am 110% all in for the Amy Demboski morning drive. (Sorry, Bob!) Not sure KENI will be able to afford the FCC fines, but I have the perfect bumper music for her new show: Britney Spear’s “If You Seek Amy.” IYKYK

***

Loving Elon’s addition of Tweet impressions. We know you read us, Alaska Twitter. It’s okay! Now everyone else knows, too.

***
One man is taking a stand. Rep. Zack Fields is leaving Twitter. ✊ I vote he joins TikTok.

***
I’m still getting to know all the new faces in the upcoming Legislature. You just never know what interesting fact or story you’ll hear next. For instance, Rep.-elect Jennie Armstrong makes her biggest life decisions by consulting Tarot cards. While Rep.-elect Jesse Sumner proudly never wears his seatbelt, and he has the tickets to prove it.

***
OMG!!! 🤦‍♀️

***
I know we’re not supposed to comment on legislators appearances (previous pic totally not related 🍈🍈) but Andy hit it out of the park here.

***
Can anyone help me locate the humble part of this tweet? 🕵️

***
This week we’ve been privy to two lawsuits involving elected legislators, and they’ve gone with two entirely different approaches online. Rep. David Eastman has been making guilty jokes and sharing daily updates on his trial.

***
While Rep.-elect Jennie Armstrong has been completely ignoring it and stress baking.

***
They are both asking for money to help with costs. I mean, Jennie did say in court how she wished she was poor. It might be time to shoot your shot, Jennie!

***
I’m just as shocked as anyone Eastman won his case. Anything could happen with the appeal. I had David losing and Jennie winning on my 2022 bingo card. Could you imagine if it ends up David winning and Jennie losing?!

***

Spotted: Really?!

***
Spotted at a White Elephant party in Anchorage: A box of two dozen red and green Kelly Tshibaka lightsabers saber swords that “don’t even light up.” They were the hot item of the night, and the first to get stolen three times.

***
Spotted at Rep.-elect Jennie Armstrong’s trial: Rep. David Eastman!

***

Overheard in Juneau, while enjoying a crisp, clear day with no snow: “You’d of think they would have come up with the perfect name by now… Bronsnowpocalypse.”
***

Overheard in West Anchorage: “So you’re telling me if I want Jennie Armstrong to vote a certain way on an issue, all I have to do is slip her a Tarot card?!
***

Overheard in Anchorage:

Mom A: “With no bussing, terrible and untimely snow day calls, and adding extra make up time to school days in February, next year’s school board elections are going to be lit.”
Mom B: “Can’t wait to watch Republicans screw this up!”

I would tell you not to quit your day job to write full-time, but I’m sure you’re awful at that too.

I would vote for this writer for Congress instead of Peltolon. Or TShibaka has my vote too.
