The last time the Landmine covered a Mary Peltola campaign event was November 5, 2024, the night she lost her re-election race for U.S. House to Republican challenger and now-Representative Nick Begich. By the time the Landmine arrived to that event, at 49th State Brewery, the direction of the race had become clear. Peltola had already left, and the few remaining groups huddled and whispered somberly. The only person in good spirits was a lone individual raiding the buffet, which sat largely untouched.
The mood at Peltola’s U.S. Senate race kickoff today, also held at 49th State, could not have been more different. The second floor dining area quickly filled with excited supporters and buzzed with conversation about Democrat Mary Peltola’s decision to take on incumbent Senator Dan Sullivan (R – Alaska). Campaign workers darted around the room, issuing handwritten press passes on name cards to a handful of local photographers and reporters.
Peltola arrived some time after 3pm, and addressed the room briefly before spending the bulk of her time greeting, speaking with, and taking photos with supporters.
Today’s event marks the start of what is sure to be a contentious race with major implications for the balance of power in the U.S. Senate. Sullivan, who has closely aligned himself with President Trump, has held the seat sought by Peltola since 2014. However, widespread concerns with affordability, economic uncertainty, healthcare access, and Trump’s policies have led many in political circles to view the seat as vulnerable.
According to Politico, Peltola’s campaign raised $1.5m in the first 24 hours after she declared. A Peltola victory would be a major upset, and could potentially flip the U.S. Senate to Democratic control.

Willy
Anyone but another effin’ repukelican.
Lisa’s not a Republican.
Yeah, I totally get the the definition of republican has changed a hell of a lot in the last 20 years. That said, Murkowski’s not up for reelection this year, is she?
Murkowski is a republican. Always has been. Just because she isn’t a corrupt MAGA sheep doesn’t change that.
“……Murkowski is a republican. Always has been……..”
“MAGA” has absolutely nothing to do with it. She is in clear violation of the right-to-life plank of the Republican platform, and “always has been”.
MAGA has everything to do with it, Reggie the Anonymous Coward and MAGA Sheep. The corrupt folks currently running the GOP are all MAGA and want to force uniform “thinking” on all candidates, regardless of how corrupt or self-serving that thinking is. In the process, they want to hijack terms like “conservative” when the movement has little to do with traditional conservatism. But tell us again how you’re not a Republican while you argue so strongly for strict adherence to the party platform.
“………tell us again how you’re not a Republican while you argue so strongly for strict adherence to the party platform……….”
I’m not a Republican, and regardless of party, those who run for elective office under a party affiliation should honor the party platform.
You are totally a Republican. Probably why you lie so easily. It’s certainly why you’re so emotional about forcing candidates to adhere to narrow, often extremist views.
“…….. you’re so emotional about forcing candidates to adhere to narrow, often extremist views………”
Editor, what is a woman? Can a man get pregnant?
The state party won’t endorse her, never will. It’s only by the 1st amendment that she’ll continue to identify and run as someone who purports to be a member of the Republican party, but by all factual evidence, holds no association with any of its statements or values.
If you’re okay with someone being publicly dishonest and refusing to change her party affiliation to match her true political stances and personal beliefs, effectively lying to the entire state she represents, then you’ve already lost the argument and are not to be taken seriously.
“……..If you’re okay with someone being publicly dishonest……..”
He is. Especially himself.

Why the fuck is everybody talking about Murkowski? She’s not up for reelection.
Partisan liars like Reggie the Anonymous Coward are obsessed with her and how she appeals to a broad swath of voters.
LOL. I cannot be a partisan since I have never registered for any political party. However, I can be very ideological and principled.
You are a liar. Which also means you’re unprincipled. But we know that already because you support pedophile-protection. Own it.
“……..you support pedophile-protection……..”
How so? Please explain.
“……..Partisan liars like Reggie the Anonymous Coward are obsessed with her and how she appeals to a broad swath of voters……….”
I will agree that she appeals to a swath of voter broads, and that’s because of her abortion advocacy.
Nobody advocates for abortion, anonymous coward. But it sure does make a great talking point. What she advocates for is a woman’s right to make her own decisions. You know, “my body, my choice.” I know you remember that, since you couldn’t say it often enough when someone asked you to wear a mask a few years ago. Hypocrite.
“……..What she advocates for is a woman’s right to make her own decisions. You know, “my body, my choice.”……..”
Choice? About what? What are the choices?
“…….You know, “my body, my choice.” I know you remember that, since you couldn’t say it often enough when someone asked you to wear a mask a few years ago. Hypocrite……….”
I love masks. I love vaccines, too. I’ve got them all. Did you get your flu shot, Editor? I have a LARGE collection of masks…………..but not for viruses. I use them for warmth and anonymity.
“…a lone individual raiding the buffet…” Was that individual wearing a Speedo?
What Lauren French and Ivan Hodes either will not say or do not know is that while Schumer may be content to use Peltola as a proxy against Sullivan, Schumer is not the entire caucus. There is a cadre of Democratic senators who are unimpressed and want a candidate who campaigns on those issues.
