New House majority press person resigned from Homer News after Rep. Vance letter about Charlie Kirk story

In a story that could probably only happen in Juneau, the mostly Democratic House majority’s new press person has some recent, and dramatic, history with a member of the Republican House minority.

Chloe Pleznac resigned as a reporter from the Homer News in October 2025, along with three other staff, after the newspaper’s decision to remove an article Pleznac wrote about a vigil following the assassination of Charlie Kirk.

The resignation came after Representative Sarah Vance (R – Homer) wrote a letter to the publisher, Carpenter Media Group, expressing disgust about the story.

In the letter, Vance wrote:

From the opening paragraphs, reporter Chloe Pleznac branded Charlie Kirk with prejudicial labels such as “far-right” and “Christian-Nationalist icon,” while smearing his views as “racist,” “controversial,” and “conspiracy theories.” These are not facts, they are editorial judgments and political talking points. If the intent was to write an opinion piece, it should have been clearly marked as such.

Carpenter Media Group acquiesced to Vance’s demands, pulling down the story and then reposting it with several changes without consulting or informing the editor of the Homer News. Not long after, Pleznac and three other staff resigned. They wrote an op-ed in the Anchorage Daily News explaining their decision to resign from the newspaper.

In the aftermath, the story was covered by the New York Times and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation

Out of a job, Pleznac applied for a press job with House majority. She was hired in November.

Pleznac told the Landmine, “Accepting the job wasn’t personal. I needed a job. I am more bothered about the newspaper’s decision to pull the story. I am super grateful and excited for my new role with the House majority.”

In a twist of irony, the House majority press office is located directly across from Vance’s office!

House majority press office is 122. Vance’s office is 114.

When asked about the House majority’s decision to hire Pleznac, Vance told the Landmine, “I have no personal vendetta against Chloe. If she’s going to be a great staffer, then I wish her success. Me calling out the article was geared at wanting fair and unbiased reporting.”

While Vance and Pleznac are now neighbors, the matter is not totally unresolved.

Vance is currently facing an ethics probe into her use of official state letterhead and state resources in the letter she wrote in response to Pleznac’s article about the Charlie Kirk vigil.

Vance is another in a long line of far-right whiners who believe themselves entitled to play the victim anytime their fragile feelings get hurt. The fact that she used her position to try and bully a local business to her way of thinking is a gross abuse of that position and should never be allowed. She lacks even the decency to apologize and show some understanding of her bad behavior. So resigning is clearly too much to expect.

Lol you’re probably one of the handful of sore losers that filed an ethics complaint against her with nothing else better to do with your life, am I right or am I right?

Bwahahahaha Mark Kelsey, one of the most consistent whiners on everything from Epstein to Eastman. What a loser. I wouldn’t piss in your mouth if your teeth were on fire. You sucked as a sports writer, sucked worse as a publisher, and now all you do is suck…

I mean, how many times would it take seeing Vances beading eyes searching into your office while she’s gnawing on the flesh of a raw fish with her tiny yellow, pointy teeth before you know you gotta get out of there.

“………the mostly Democratic House majority………”

Given power by RINOs. For the record, and from the Legislature’s official website, the House is made up of:

21 Republicans
14 Demorats
1 “Independent”
4 “Not Affiliated”

Thus, Republicans are in the majority 21 to 19 of all others. A Republican is the “majority leader”,a Republican is the “minority leader”, and the lone “independent” (who used to be a Democrat) is the Speaker.

Alaskan political parties are a scam.

Worked out pretty well for Chloe, good paying state salary plus benefits, she’s doing much better for herself I’m sure than making less than $20 an hour at a dying media website that no one subscribed to!

So two feuding middle schoolers were assigned adjoining lockers?

And that’s publishable here?

ZOMG!!!

Can’t wait for Landfield to break what Sarah writes in Chloe’s yearbook!
